I took Seagate’s new 2TB Xbox drive and filled it with Steam games - pepperhisday

Here at PCWorld, we start much of requests that don't necessarily always match the open indicated on the masthead. "Would you go over my iPad game?" "Why isn't The Last of Us connected your Game of the Year list?" "Have you heard about transportable-cloud engineering science?" "Would you hold my sister?"

So when Seagate wrote to me last week to say, "Be on the lookout for a launch outfit (currently on its direction to you)" and told me it was their recently Game Drive for Xbox, I didn't even blink. I just wrote back and asked (with a wink) if IT worked on PC too. And of course it does, because information technology's a hard drive. Simply a normal 2TB external hard drive in a pretty green Xbox case.

From Seagate's site:

"Nothing says 'Game Over' for the Xbox One get like a full rough drive. Boost your console's memory capacity with the Seagate Game Drive, the only external hard tug studied exclusively for Xbox Unrivalled Beaver State Xbox 360."

Exclusively, eh? Well, this is what the Game Drive for Xbox looks like sitting on top of my Phanteks Enthoo Luxe PC case, filled with 2TB of Steamer games:

And this is what the Game Driveway for Xbox looks alike in my drive directory, after I renamed it to something more appropriate:

I symmetrical changed the Enthoo Luxe's LED case lighting to green so the poor Game Force for Xbox wouldn't flavour excessively malapropos. Spec-sagacious, the Game Drive is a 2.5-edge in 5,400 RPM drive and connects through USB 3.0. Using CrystalDiskMark I clocked it at 136.6/127.4 MB/s consecutive read/write.

Some leading light PC exclusives straightaway residing on the Game Drive in for Xbox: Age of Empires Deuce, Pillars of Timeless existence, Dota 2, Europa Universalis IV, The Hard Humankind, and many. Like, a bunch more. two terabytes is a lot of distance.

IT's honestly not a bad drive, provided you're still using hard drives in any case and harbour't switched entirely to SSDs for gaming. A bite slower than the 198.2/194.3 MB/s I clocked connected my internal 2TB 7,200 Rev drive away. That meanswith the Game Drive you'll experience slower load times and potentially worse functioning for any game that streams assets from the labour a lot instead of Pound—but non unmanageable. I could see using this drive arsenic auxiliary game storage for an SSD-equipped laptop, nowadays that you send away set Steam to install to multiple directories.

You could in all probability level cracking the enclosure and hook the drive up internally if you felt like it. Or keep it external, if you deficiency a moment of a laugh all time you seem down at your Personal computer. Or…you could just buy out an internal hard drive. 2TB 7200 RPM drives seem to start at about $75 these days, as compared to $100+ for the Plot Drive in for Xbox.

Extendible current PC gaming.
